CT Humane Society Pet of the Week

CT Humane Society Pet of the Week

Today’s Pet of the Week is going to be little black and white Irene!

  • She’s a one-year-old domestic shorthair cat who loves people!
  • She hasn’t had too much experience with children, but she’d be willing to share her home with children 8+ who can be gentle and respectful with pets
  • This sweet kitty might also be okay with other pets in the home pending a meet and greet
  • Irene came to us from Bridgeport animal control when they needed some help rehoming pets
  • Irene is a sweet and playful kitty cat who is looking for a consistent home environment where she can enjoy the companionship of her humans by playing and cuddling, but also take some time to herself to nap in a sunny spot of her choosing. Please apply for Irene if you’re interested in learning more about her from one of our adoption counselors!
  • Sometimes Irene can become overstimulated, so it’s important to be able to read a cat’s body language to give them the space they need when they’re done playing
    • Common signs of overstimulation include: tail swishing, twitching, flattening of ears, etc.

Melissa in the Morning: Ever Heard of VFO?

You’ve heard of PTO…but what about V-TO? Crunchbase, a private company data provider, has been offering “volunteering time off” (VTO) to its employees since 2018. They say it’s a major benefit for workers and some studies are backing that up. Recently, a study from Oxford University found volunteering is a major benefit for workers with a lot of positive outcomes. So, why don’t more people offer this and is this a no-brainer for companies to begin offering? We asked our career strategist, Julie Bauke, about this during Julie on the Job.
